The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch ref. 311.30.42.30.01.006 is commonly referred to by collectors as the “Sapphire Sandwich”, distinguishing it from the traditional Hesalite version of the Moonwatch.

While retaining the classic 42 mm stainless-steel case, black dial and tachymeter bezel associated with the Speedmaster Professional, this reference features sapphire crystal on both the front and case back. The transparent case back reveals the manually wound Omega calibre 1863, a more finely finished version of the calibre 1861, specifically intended for display through an exhibition back.

Introduced in 2014, the reference represents the final generation of the calibre 1863 Speedmaster Professional before the introduction of the calibre 3861 Moonwatch in 2021.

The present example is accompanied by Omega’s large Moonwatch presentation box and its extensive original accessories, including an additional NATO strap, long Velcro-style strap, strap-changing tool, loupe, Speedmaster medallion and accompanying documentation.

Combining the traditional appearance and manually wound character of the classic Moonwatch with sapphire crystal and an exhibition case back, ref. 311.30.42.30.01.006 offers a distinctive interpretation of one of Omega’s most iconic chronographs.
