Introduced in 1952, the Omega Constellation quickly became one of the brand's most prestigious collections, combining chronometer-certified precision with elegant design. Among the most recognisable executions is the so-called “Pie Pan” dial, characterised by its distinctive twelve-sided, faceted construction.
The present example features a particularly desirable double-signed dial bearing the name “Meister”, the renowned Zurich-based jeweller and watch retailer. Such retailer-signed dials are less commonly encountered and represent an interesting chapter in the history of Swiss watch distribution, when prestigious retailers occasionally had their names added to the dials of watches they sold.
Powered by Omega's automatic chronometer calibre 561, the watch bears movement number 24'426'791, placing it within a notable series of 100,000 consecutively numbered Omega chronometer movements, calibres 551 and 561, submitted for testing between October 1964 and February 1966. The series reportedly achieved particularly favourable results in chronometer testing.
With its distinctive Pie Pan dial, elegant case design and uncommon Meister signature, the present Constellation represents an attractive example of Omega's celebrated chronometer wristwatches from the 1960s.
