More about Kasimir Sevrinovitch Malevich

Kazimir Malevich (1879–1935) was a Russian avant-garde artist and art theorist whose works and writings had a profound influence on the development of abstract painting during the 20th century. He is best known as the founder of Suprematism, a radical, non-representational art movement that he introduced in 1915.

Malevich was born in Kyiv, in present-day Ukraine, to a Polish family and worked mainly in Russia, where he became a central figure in the Russian avant-garde. During his early career, he explored several artistic styles, including Impressionism, Symbolism, Fauvism and Cubism, before developing his own abstract visual language.
