A cast iron table with a circular stone top, Firma Svenskt Tenn, 1940s.

The base of green-painted cast iron, spiral-turned leg, four-part feet and a Swedish green marble top with bevelled edge. Diameter 120 cm, height 73 cm.

Wear, the top weathered.

Provenance

The table was purchased for a country estate in the 1940s by the present owner’s grandparents.

Exhibitions

The model was exhibited at the Svenskt Tenn spring exhibition in 1941.

The model was sold at Firma Svenskt Tenn as "Dining table with iron base" and could be ordered with various stone tops (granite, slate, marble) or with a raw glass top.

More about Josef Frank

Josef Frank was born in Austria and studied architecture in Vienna. As an architect, he worked with private home areas, villas and apartment buildings. In 1925 he started his own interior design firm Haus und Garten together with two architect colleagues. In connection with the advance of the Nazis, he emigrated to Sweden and was employed in 1934 at Svenskt Tenn. After the outbreak of World War II, Josef Frank, who came from a Jewish family, was forced into exile in New York. At Svenskt Tenn, he made an impact on the product range for four decades; especially when it comes to furniture and fabric prints.
