Marianne Bigner was the daughter of Nora and Folke Bigner, who were close friends of Lotte Laserstein. The Bigner family provided Laserstein with tremendous support during her first years in Sweden and also constituted an important source of emotional support for the artist. Laserstein portrayed all the members of the family on numerous occasions, and their friendship lasted throughout their lives.
