The first of the season’s four auctions begins on 4 September. Of special note among the wines is a collection of older vintages from Sine Qua Non, including Red Handed, The Other Hand, Ventriloquist and In Flagrante, together with magnums of Upside Down and The Thrill of Stamp Collecting.
However, the inaugural auction also features close to 100 lots of champagne, with objects including the now rare 1907 Heidsieck Monopole Goût Américain. This bottle was salvaged in 1998 from the wreck of the Jönköping, which was sunk by a German U-boat in 1916 while carrying a cargo destined for the Tsar of Russia.
A magnum of Mouton Rothschild from 1955 and La Mission Haut Brion 1975 are just two examples of items from Bordeaux, while items from Burgundy include Roumier, Jadot, entire cases of Hospice de Beaune, and several variants of Domaine de la Romanée Conti. Representing Italy are Altare, Mascarello and Tenuta San Guido, among many others.
A 142-year-old Madeira Barbeito is the oldest item in the auction. Among the distilled drinks there are several rarities, including the Scottish Girvan Single Grain 1964, Longrow 1974, and a 45-year-old Springbank. Japanese equivalents are Ichiro’s Jack of Spades and King of Diamonds. However, these are just a few examples from the September auction, which features 600 plus objects.
