Josef Frank with Friends – February Edition

This year’s first Josef Frank and Friends themed auction offers several of Josef Frank’s beloved design classics. Among the highlights are the highly regarded “Couch 775”, upholstered in "Oriental Bird" from GP & J Baker, and the elegant so-called Schatullskrivbordet desk, designed in the 1940s.

The combination of function and aesthetics was central to the design philosophy of Estrid Ericson, the founder of Svenskt Tenn, especially in regards to lighting, where multiple light sources were intended to create harmony in a room. The three-branched floor lamp “G 2431”, originally named Tre-Spiralen when designed by Josef Frank in 1938, later became known as the “San Francisco lamp” after being showcased at the Golden Gate Exhibition in San Francisco in 1939. Explore the various lamps by Josef Frank featured in the auction!

In addition to furniture, pewter items, and lamps, there is also a Frank Nr 4 rug, designed in the 1930s, reminiscent of a blooming summer meadow.

Estrid Ericson (1894–1981) began her successful collaboration with Josef Frank (1885–1967) in the 1930s. The first major exhibition of Frank's designs for Svenskt Tenn was held in 1934 at the Liljevalchs Art Gallery. Josef Frank went on to create many classics that have adorned both private homes and public spaces, and his furniture has become iconic in Swedish design history.

Welcome to explore and bid on these timeless design classics.
