Barbie – A Collection, Part II

Welcome to the world of Barbie! Here you’ll find a remarkably fine collection that includes Barbie and her friends, along with a wide range of clothes and accessories, with a focus on the earliest dolls and items from the 1960s.

Barbie made her debut at the New York Toy Fair in March 1959. The iconic doll was created by Ruth Handler, one of the founders of Mattel, after she was inspired by the German doll Lilli, which she discovered in a toy shop in Lucerne, Switzerland. Handler wanted to create a doll with more adult-like proportions, as her daughter Barbie had begun to show interest in dolls with a more mature appearance. After bringing Lilli home from Switzerland, Handler made some adjustments, and thus Barbie was born.
