The model was designed in 1943 as an entry to a furniture competition organised by Svenska Möbelfabrikerna and the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design. The aim was to "produce proposals for furniture that, in terms of type and design, are particularly adapted to the needs of the modern family home and suitable for mass production." The present model won first prize under the name "Ta i trä" (Knock on Wood), designed by Elias Svedberg with Erik Wörts and Lena Larsson as collaborators. With the realisation of this model, the concept of flat-pack furniture is born, with its parts and fittings delivered in packages and assembled by the retailer or the customer.
