From the Collections at Kroksgård, Rödön, Jämtland

The interior culture of the Jämtland peasantry during the 18th and 19th centuries ranks among the finest examples of Swedish folk art. Painters and woodcarvers trained in Stockholm in the 18th century brought the Rococo style back home, spreading its forms throughout the region. The magnificent church interiors created in the second half of the 18th century naturally influenced the farmers as well, shaping the furniture and household objects they commissioned for their own homes. Grand cupboards, chests, and sleighs were adorned with high-quality floral painting, rocaille motifs, and draperies.

The farm Kroksgård, with origins dating back to the late 16th century, is the oldest residential building in Rödön. At the end of the 1950s, the Bergström family took over Kroksgård, initiating a remarkable cultural endeavour to restore the farm to its former glory. Original surfaces were uncovered or reconstructed, and the house was filled with genuine, untouched furniture and objects from the surrounding areas. In 2019, it was time for a new owner to take over and care for Kroksgård. The farm was sold, and Bukowskis has now been entrusted with the sale of a small selection of the items that have been part of the property. Among the offerings are a magnificent, generously sized stool tables, bowls, originally painted chests, and woven baskets. In addition, there are several interesting and rare cultural objects originating from Jämtland.
