Roj Friberg – The Ghost Sonata

Entering Roj Friberg’s imaginary realm is like reading Kafka, Beckett or Canetti. Here, similar apocalyptic scenarios unfold: indictments await, worlds collapse, and an indefinable threat steadily escalates. It is this sense of menace that becomes the most tangible element in a world made of shadows.

The images are born from the interplay between memory and dreams. Ash-grey, gnarled figures appear as living apparitions, emerging from a hallucinatory fever dream. Repellent in appearance, they nevertheless captivate the viewer’s gaze.

In these wondrous scenes, we encounter faceless dinner guests or find ourselves amid collective riots, where the crowd becomes a many-headed organism. There are both eerie natural settings and desolate, post-industrial landscapes.
