August Strindberg
A letter by, August Strindberg dated 1910
Brev till Gustaf Brand (1857-1953), medicinare från Lund och en av
Strindbergs nära vänner sedan slutet av 1890-talet.
Egenhändigt skrivet och undertecknat brev, 3 juli 1910, 4 s. i 8:o.,
text samt två små teckningar på 2 sidor, undertecknat ”Strindberg”. Spår
av vikning.
Handlar om Strindbergs planerade (men aldrig genomförda) resa från
Stockholm till Brand i Rävlanda, Västergötland. Utifrån ett par
fotografier av gården som Strindberg fått (nu i Kungl. Biblioteket)
ställer han frågor om husen och deras invånare, vem han skall äta med
m.m. Han har även ritat två små skisser. (Det är känt att Brand, som
tidigt intresserat sig för Strindbergs måleri och rentav ordnade en
utställning i Lund 1892 (se noten till Strindbergs brevutgåva, nr 2431),
till och med planerade att inrätta en ateljé åt honom i Rävlanda.)

Designer
August Strindberg is one of Sweden's most known writers, playwrights and artists. He was a central figure in the cultural life of his time and as a conflict-seeking socially critical person, he was constantly debated. Strindberg started painting as a young man but took a break in the 90s, when he came to spend a lot of time with artists both in Sweden and abroad. He painted more than a hundred paintings of windy seas, stormy skies and landscapes, he painted in dramatic color scale and characterized by the artist's strong temperament. He early became internationally known for his works, thoughts and ideas. Strindberg was constantly productive and pioneering. Represented, among others, at the National Museum, the Nordic Museum and the Thielska Gallery in Stockholm, as well as in many private collections.
