Pekka Piekäinen

Pekka Piekäinen (1945–2004) was a prominent silversmith and one of the pioneers in Finnish modern jewellery art and silver art from the 1970s onward. Piekäinen was the chief designer at Auran Kultaseppä from 1971 to 1989 and in 1991 he founded Platinoro.

During the 1970s, Piekäinen became known internationally as a designer and was the first Finn and Nordic resident whose jewellery was sold at Tiffany & Co. He also designed jewelry for many famous people, such as Princess Diana. In addition to this, Piekäinen designed jewellery watches in silver for Omega and Tissot, among others.

Characteristic of Pekka Piekäinen's design are the simple shapes, the clean, strong line but also the use of colors. Piekäinen took inspiration from nature and everyday life. In his work, Piekäinen tried to understand nature and its forms, which manifested itself as simple but expressive jewelry, objects and watches in silver. Sometimes Piekäinen combined silver with other materials, such as enamel, precious stones, natural stones and gold, but he also designed jewellery made of gold.

Welcome to take part in a curated collection of jewellery, everyday objects and watches designed by Pekka Piekäinen.
