Miniatyrer

Miniature painting has a long tradition in art history. The works very often have a high artistic quality. Especially during the 18th century, this became popular due to the intimate character of this art form. A miniature portrait could serve as an exclusive business card or a gift of love and often worn close to the recipient's heart. Miniature portraits also served as royal gifts where one was supposed to wear the reigning king's portrait in pendants or on a ring. Well-known are the snuff boxes with double covers where erotic motifs could hide in the lower lid. This lovely collection includes everything from portraits to religious scenes or beautiful figures in landscapes.
