Nils Kreuger

Nils Kreuger's (1850-1930) art often focuses on the relationship between man and animal. In Kreuger's Paris motifs from the 1880s, the new boulevards of the inner city or suburbs are depicted with horse-drawn carriages. And in the motifs made in Varberg with ploughing Halland farmers, man and animal appear to have a close connection. Gradually, however, Kreuger abandoned humans in his paintings and instead searched for landscapes populated only by animals. Kreuger found this environment on Öland, where he painted horses, cows and sheep in Alvaret and Borgholm's surroundings.
