Josef Frank was born in Austria and studied architecture at the Konstgewerbeschule. As an architect, he worked with private home areas and large complexes and started his own interior design company, Haus und Garten, with two architect colleagues. In 1934, Josef Frank was employed at Svenskt Tenn. A few years later, he had his international breakthrough at the world exhibitions in Paris in 1937 and New York in 1939, together with the founder of Svenskt Tenn, Estrid Ericson. After the Second World War outbreak, Josef Frank, who came from a Jewish family, was forced into exile in New York.
