White painted with gild decor. Upholstered seats and sheaf decorated back. Straight fluted legs ending in rosettes. Gustavian, Finland.
Provenance
Twelve chairs were ordered in 1795 by the burgher and builder Josef Werfwing (1765-1844) as an wedding present for his wife to be Catarina Nordbrandt b. Ahn.
The other six chairs are at Kuddnäs, the childhood home of the Finnish poet Zacharias Toppelius.
