More information

Marjatta Tapiola has deservedly risen to the front rank of the contemporary Finnish art scene. This master of line, colour and sophisticated power has continually refined her craft and the quality of her output since making her breakthrough in the 1980s. The new century has seen subjects from mythology become typical in Tapiola’s works, with the character of the Minotaur playing a key role. The artist has won several distinctions, including a Pro Finlandia medal in 2004 and a State Prize for visual art in 2006. Her works can be found in numerous major Finnish collections and public galleries.
