Rafael Wardi

The distinctive characteristics of Rafael Wardi's art are strongly present in this themed auction – the works exude both wisdom and playfulness, with seriousness and mystique intertwined with the whimsical. They harbour secrets, yet at the same time reveal meanings. The auction primarily features works in smaller and medium formats, such as watercolours, spontaneous pencil drawings, and pieces in chalk and charcoal, all of which reflect Wardi's unique expression and sense of colour.

Rafael Wardi was a Finnish visual artist born in Helsinki. He studied at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, the Free Art School, and during travels to France and Italy. Wardi is best known for his abstract painting but also created freer, colourist figurative works where traditional expression coexists with modernist influences. Wardi's palette is expressive, warm, and intense.
