Tommy Assarsson "Art is like a dream"

To express himself and experiment with various materials was essential for artist from Malmö, Sweden, Tommy Assarsson. At the age of 20, he attended art school in Lund, with artist Jules Schyl as his teacher. His sculptures and artwork are highly personal, and the expression is unique. During the 1950s, he worked as an illustrator for the newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet in Malmö. He wanted to work with robust materials and create freely from the heart. It’s hard to resist his leaping hippos or the shaggy bisons. Over the years, he has held numerous exhibitions both in and outside of Sweden. In this retrospective themed auction, we are invited into Tommy’s dream world, among sculptures in clay, stoneware, bronze, and art that reflects, among other things, the world of jazz that was close to his heart.
