Oiva Toikka designed his first Lollipop glass sculptures in 1968. The following year, the Lollipop sculptures were exhibited at Heal’s department store in London.
In 1988, Toikka created several Lollipop glass sculptures for the exhibition LASIA – GLAS – GLASS at the Finnish Glass Museum. The work now offered at auction was made for this exhibition, which, the following year, embarked on an extensive touring exhibition to museums in the United States and Canada.
Timo Simanainen also participated in the realization of the international touring exhibition. He was involved in constructing exhibition displays at venues including the California Science Center in Los Angeles in 1989, the Musée des arts décoratifs in Montréal in the summer of 1991, the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa in 1992, and the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. The exhibition was also presented at the Canadian Craft Museum in Vancouver in 1991 and toured several of Canada’s major cities over a period of several years.
Timo Simanainen also contributed to the exhibition publication. Oiva Toikka personally designed the layout, while the texts and listings of Toikka’s production were prepared by Simanainen.
Oiva Toikka’s exhibition opened at the Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki in May 1988. According to the bibliographic information for the exhibition publication, the exhibition ran from 13 May to 11 September 1988.
Following the conclusion of the exhibition, this Lollipop glass sculpture became part of Timo Simanainen’s private collection.

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest Finnish ceramic and glass artists of the 20th century. Toikka, who began his artistic career as a ceramicist, was from 1963 the artistic director of Notsjö Glasbruk. However, Toikka is today mainly associated with Iittala, not least for the well-known production of "glass birds". The successes have also been great in other artistic areas, for example Toikka has been hired as a costume designer for several theater and opera productions, of which productions at the Finnish National Opera should be mentioned.
