Werner Janson

Bukowskis presents a theme auction drawn from the estate of Werner Janson – a collection that opens the door to an artistic practice characterised by curiosity, diversity and constant evolution. It offers an opportunity to discover the breadth of Janson’s work and to follow how his artistic language changed and deepened over the years.

The collection spans several distinct periods of Janson’s career, from landscapes, still lifes and figurative works to a freer and more abstract approach to painting. Over time, his subjects, colours and forms evolved, while a clear sense of curiosity and a desire to explore new artistic paths remained a constant throughout his work.

Janson studied at Otte Sköld’s School of Painting and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, and subsequently undertook several study trips, including to France. His encounters with different artistic environments came to influence his later work, as representational painting gradually gave way to a more personal and experimental visual language.

The present collection offers an opportunity to follow Werner Janson’s artistic development over time and discover the many facets of his oeuvre. Together, the works form a vivid and engaging whole, offering an insight into an artist who was constantly seeking new directions.
