Tilpo II

Bukowskis presents, in this auction, part two of a collection of works by the Swedish artist Hans Eriksson (b. 1960), also known as Fruls Tilpo. The collection comes from the legendary Galleri Händer, located on Stockholm’s Hornsgatspuckeln. During the 1970s and 1980s, Galleri Händer was a meeting place for artists including Lars Hillersberg, Peter Dahl, Kristina Elander, Gittan Jönsson and Eva Zettervall, among others. The gallery was run by Hans Stenkil Leijonhufvud, known for his independent spirit and his original choice of artists.

Fruls Tilpo belongs to a generation of Swedish artists who, during the 1980s, developed a personal and uninhibited approach to painting, characterised by a strong sense of presence and expressive power. His early works are distinguished by a direct visual language in which people, animals and dreamlike environments come together in scenes filled with both humour and seriousness. Drawing inspiration from contemporary political and social issues, Eriksson developed a style of painting that was both charged and unexpected, often marked by a raw energy and vivid use of colour that would remain characteristic of Fruls Tilpo’s later work.

Since the early 2000s, Hans Eriksson has worked together with set designer Hanna Aihonen under the name Tilpo. Together, the artistic duo has created numerous acclaimed exhibitions and art projects in Sweden and internationally, including in Finland, France, Germany and South Africa.
