In 1949, Itzchak Tarkay moved with his family to Israel from Subotica in present-day Serbia and studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art at the age of 16, later continuing to the Avni Institute of Art and Design. His style is characterised by a strong colourism that evokes thoughts of artists like Matisse.
