More information

Sarah Cooper (b. 1974, USA/Sweden) and Nina Gorfer (b. 1979, Austria) form the artist duo Cooper & Gorfer, active since the mid-2000s. They are internationally recognized for their boundary-crossing work in portraiture, where they have developed a unique visual language over nearly two decades.

Their practice is rooted in photography but also integrates painting, textile techniques, collage, and video. Through this combination of mediums, they create complex, tactile image worlds where the portrait serves as a site for exploration rather than representation. Central to their work are questions of identity, memory, and lived experience, and their pieces reveal both the physical and constructed as well as the emotionally charged.
