In "Dam med 2 huvuden, 2 kroppar och 7 drömmar" Marie-Louise Ekman’s characteristically pared-down pictorial world encounters a body that no longer conforms to the given order of anatomy. Two female bodies share two heads, placed on a bifurcated neck, while the second body remains headless. This doubling creates a displacement between body and identity: what initially appears as repetition becomes instead a dissolution of the idea of the individual as a unified whole.

In Ekman’s work, the everyday is rarely unambiguous. The stylised drawing and clear fields of colour give the image an apparently simple and immediate character, while the subject opens onto questions of the boundaries of the self, bodily integrity, and the relationship between inner and outer reality. The tension arises precisely in the encounter between order and impossibility: a space in which everything seems to have its designated place, except the human being.
