With serene expression and downcast eyes, the hair pulled up in a high chignon, with attached headdress carved with a seated deity amongst scrolling foliage. Height 45 cm.

The collection of the artist Einar Jolin (1890-1967), Stockholm. The Guanyin head is depicted ina painting by Jolin in an oilpainting dated 1960 sold at Bukowskis 2015, see attached photo.

The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, the Chinese goddess of Mercy and Compassion, Guanyin in Chinese, historically has been one of the most popular and most favoured Buddhist deities in China.
