Bobo Wallmansson’s artistic practice largely revolves around the relationship between humans and the animal kingdom, with a particular focus on chimpanzees. The starting point is the similarities between humans and other animal species, as well as the characteristics often used to distinguish humans from animals, such as consciousness, cognitive ability and language. These characteristics are also found in other species, albeit to varying degrees.

Chimpanzees play a central role in Wallmansson’s artistic practice, not least because of their striking similarities to humans. By placing chimpanzees in environments and contexts associated with humans, the viewer’s perspective is shifted. The animals then become more than representations of nature; they also serve as mirrors of human behaviour and relationships. This creates an opportunity to reflect on what humans share with other forms of life.
