Kurt Simons, born in 1940, studied at Beckmans School of Design from 1957 to 1960. A few years later, he worked as a freelance illustrator while pursuing a keen interest in art. In the 1970s, he began participating regularly in exhibitions. To date, he has exhibited at more than 100 galleries, art centres and museums, including Galerie Blanche, Kungliga Konstakademien, Galerie Konstruktiv Tendens and Nordisk Kunst-91 in Århus.

Alongside his work as a painter, graphic artist and sculptor, Kurt Simons was a sought-after and successful designer during the 1970s and 1980s, and before that, a filmmaker during the 1960s.

As an artist, he works in a Constructivist style, which he has made his own over many years, but in a minimalist form in which he has stripped away and reduced the composition until only a few basic forms remain.

In 2016, Kurt Simons was invited to participate in the international exhibition in Poland commemorating the centenary of Malevich’s Black Square: “Magia kwadratu”. His first solo exhibition was held at Ålands Konstmuseum in 1977. In June 2022, Åland Post issued a postage stamp featuring a painting by Kurt Simons from 2010.

Kurt Simons was also invited to participate in the exhibition “Relationer” at Uppsala Konstmuseum in 2019–1920, which explored the relationship of a new generation to an earlier generation, represented by Elli Hemberg, Olle Bærtling and Lars Erik Falk. Uppsala Konstmuseum subsequently acquired a large triptych by Kurt Simons for its permanent collection. He has also created a large number of public works.
