Madeleine Pyk held her debut exhibition at the legendary Petra at Lilla Paviljongen in Stockholm in 1956 – the same year that Pyk completed her studies at Konstfackskolan. She later studied at Konstakademien (1963–1967) and exhibited throughout Sweden, from Kulturen in Lund to Galleri Blå in Umeå. She has also held solo exhibitions internationally in Amsterdam, Botswana, Hamburg, Nice, Paris and Rome, and is represented in the collections of Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the City of Stockholm, Norrköpings Museum, Västerås Museum, the City of Västerås, Umeå Museum and Östersunds Museum.
It is difficult to categorise Madeleine Pyk; she works across a broad spectrum. In addition to painting and graphic art, she writes and takes photographs. She has published several books and made films. Few artists are as beloved by the public. The poet and playwright Kristina Lugn once said that every Swedish home has a kitchen, a bathroom and a Madeleine Pyk painting. It is a fine description of how much Madeleine Pyk is loved.
