The 'Ostindia' model was introduced in 1932 at Rörstrand. The decoration, designed by Nils Emil Lundström, is inspired by Chinese 18th-century plates that were imported to Sweden by the Swedish East India Company. The inspiration is evident when comparing it to the Chinese plate's freely painted leaf border and the flowers in the middle, which have been adapted to a more European taste and adjusted for larger industrial production.
