This themed auction includes a number of sketch books, drawings, studies and sketches by Gösta Adrian-Nilsson, featuring both well-known motifs and a number of previously unseen compositions. The collection also includes several fascinating letters written to GAN by artists such as Carl Kylberg, Nils Wedel, Otto G. Carlsund and Fernand Léger. The highlight of these is the handwritten letter sent from Stockholm by Wassily Kandinsky to GAN in Lund.

Timeless sculptures

A growing number of art lovers are showing an interest in classical and modern sculptures created from gleaming bronze, hewn marble or carved wood. Experience three-dimensional art in endless different ways as you move around the room, while light, shadow and shifting angles create fascinating and ever-changing interactions with the artworks. Beautiful free-standing works by some of the leading sculptors of the 19th and 20th centuries are presented here, ranging from modern to classical styles.

Max Walter Svanberg

PAINTINGS, COLLAGES AND SKETCHES

Max Walter Svanberg has consistently explored surrealism within modern art in a way that few other Swedish artists have managed to achieve. He has also received international acclaim and recognition for his extensive, unique output. The French art historian and critic Jacques Lassaigne noted back in 1965 that Svanberg represented “the richest developmental phase of surrealism”.

Forthcoming exhibition, 13 March:

Torsten Renqvist

“Torsten Renqvist was one of the greatest Swedish artists of the last century.” (Obituary, Ulf Linde.) Many of us are familiar with Torsten Renqvist through his sculptures which, with their strong forms, convey a sense of tenderness, humour and intense seriousness, all at the same time. Throughout his life, he refused to be pigeon-holed or labelled, moving effortlessly between painting, graphic art, drawing and sculpture. He was remarkably well-read, taking what he read and transforming it into his art. Bukowskis has been entrusted with the great honour of displaying selected sculptures by Renqvist. Several of these are unique sketches for famous monumental works.
