With 800 lots, Systembolaget’s March drinks auction was the biggest ever since going online in 2012. It broke records for both the number of lots and the total value, reaching SEK 4.7 million. In all, 92% of the lots were sold.
The auction drew a great deal of interest, not least in the unique collection from the private members’ club Villa Pauli, consisting of 340 lots. The auction’s popularity was boosted by good provenance, classic regions and strong vintages. A magnum of Bollinger RD 1964 sold for SEK 13,800, and a case of six bottles of Salon 1985 fetched SEK 46,800.
There was also plenty of interest in the opening 440 lots. For example, a six-bottle case of Mouton Rothschild 2000 went for SEK 76,800. Among the distilled drinks going under the hammer, a Coeur de Lion calvados from 1948 attracted a winning bid of just over SEK 12,700.
