Forum Box - Mia Hamari

MIA HAMARI

Mia Hamari is a sculptor of fantasy tales, often integrating additional constituents such as bronze, bone, iron, hair or other natural materials into her finely carved wooden creations. Her works have always drawn substantial strength and inspiration from familiar natural themes, animals and the forest.
The characters are sometimes representational, but also surreal human and animal metamorphoses that include symbolic features. The subjects arise from dreams, life experience or childhood memories, and may sometimes emerge in the form of paintings.

Pets 2010-2012 is an entity to be experienced in more than one reality as the painting captures a moment from the circus with the artist’s son serving as model, wearing a horsetail for a wig with a wooden doll-like sculpture, the Pet, in his lap. The painting was a highlight of a 2013 private SIRKUS exhibition at Forum Box in Helsinki.
Mia Hamari graduated from the sculpture department of the Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. She has held annual private exhibitions and taken part in several museum, concert and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad, including Forum Box 2010 and 2013, and the ARCOmadrid International Contemporary Art Fair in 2014 and 2017.
