Bukowskis’ Modern Masters Helsinki sale was closed successfully this evening after intense bidding in the auction room during this autumn's first hammer auction in Finland. The auction’s selection was exceptionally strong and included paintings, sculptures, furniture, design objects and jewellery by sought after designers and both Finnish and international artists. Through the auction Bukowskis once again strengthened its position as the leading Nordic auction house.
The top lot of the evening was Reidar Särestöniemi’s ”Frost birches”, which sold for a final price of 76 472 €. Other top lots included ”Hay, Shore” by Ilkka Lammi (final price: 66 422 €), ”Reflections on Soda Fountain” by Roy Lichtenstein that achieved 42 812 €, Birger Carlstedt’s artwork that reached a final price of 25 564 € and ”Tête de Femme (De profil)” by Pablo Picasso that was sold for 21 729 €.
The star of the evening was however the design department that achieved a high sale-through rate and fantastic final prices. The department attracted bidders from all around the world and the results show that there is an significant demand for Finnish modern design. The top lots of the department were: a glass sculpture by Timo Sarpaneva that reaches a final price of 13 211 €, Oiva Toikka’s ”Lollipop” that achieved 9 786 €, Rut Bryk's stoneware relief (final price: 13 421 €) and Tapio Wirkkala’s sculpture that was sold for 7 951 €. The demand for Paavo Tynell’s lamps was also high and many of the lots achieved above-estimate results. The top lots were two magnificent chandeliers that reached a final price of 30 580 €.
