“I am happy that we had the opportunity to sell this exquisite work. It was particularly joyful to see how classic Finnish art attracts buyers from different age groups. Quality art is timeless and reflects lasting values”, says Johan Wulff, Head of Art.
Works by Ferdinand von Wright, Ilja Jefimovitj Repin, Helene Schjerfbeck and Tove Jansson were also sought-after. Tove Jansson’s beautiful self-portrait more than tripled its estimate and sold for 32 005 €.
The demand for Finnish design continues to be strong and the department achieved fantastic results. Birger Kaipiainen’s ceramic sculpture was sold for 17 540 € and a pair of wall lights by Paavo Tynell realised 15 318 €.
Other notable highlights included a set of unique plates with Axel von Fersen’s monogram and a fantastic silver candelabrum by C.H. Hallberg.
After a successful auction season in Finland it is time for this season’s highlight, Important Winter Sale. The sale presents a fantastic collection of paintings and sculptures by leading artists.
