Strong market for modern art and prints

Fantastic works by Fontana and great results for Swedish artists when the department for art and prints went under the hammer during day two of Modern Art + Design. So far this autumn, Bukowskis has sold art and design for a total final price of SEK 128.5 million during our hammer auctions.

— We are grateful for the trust of our customers to sell so many significant international works this autumn, of which many have achieved high final prices. It is satisfying to see that the result has been so positive with intense bidding on Lucio Fontana, Hans Hartung, Victor Vasarely and Max Ernst to mention some of the evening's top lots. The interest in art and design is larger than ever, which is wonderful to see in these times, says Andreas Rydén, Head Specialist, Art.

— Historically we have seen excellent prints of acclaimed artists such as Picasso, Miró and Chagall in Sweden, in which our international customers continues to show great interest in. Prints is an ideal opening for someone interested in starting to collect art. You can get access to affordable art by artists whose other works today cost millions. The price for prints has also proven to be stable over time, says Marcus Kinge, Specialist Prints.

Additional highlights include Einar Jolins, "View of Stockholm from the South" (SEK 976,000), Inge Schiöler, "Bay with boathouse and boat" (SEK 1,1 million), Isaac Grünewald, "Father and Son" (SEK 735,000) and Lotte Laserstein, "Woman and Violinist" (SEK 1,265,000 million).

— Both the international and Swedish art market continues to be very strong. We sold works from 'Göteborgskoloristerna', 'Halmstadgruppen' alongside with Matisse students with great success. The bidding was lively throughout the auction. It was also exciting to see that Sven Jonson's "White urn / No 8" from 1930 was hammered for SEK 1.4 million, says Lena Rydén, Specialist Modern Art.
