Andreas Weinås is a fashion editor with a deep passion for vintage watches and unique collectables, and a go-to inspiration for timeless style. Working as a freelance writer and editor for several magazines featuring the worlds most interesting watch producers, collectors and tastemakers within men's fashion, we asked him to choose his personal favourites within the upcoming watch auction Important Timepieces. Read an interview and see a curated selection from Andreas Weinås in collaboration with Bukowskis.

When did you become interested in watches? Who/what inspired you?
– My great interest in watches was started to grow after I inherited my grandfather's Rolex Datejust from 1974, a fantastic watch with timeless aesthetics. Above all, it still reminds me of the relationship with my grandfather. It is also the only watch I would never consider selling.

” I SEE A GREATER FOCUS ON MODERN WATCHES FROM PATEK, ROLEX, F.P JOURNE AND RICHARD MILLE, EVEN AMONG MORE CONSERVATIVE COLLECTORS – ALSO VINTAGE CARTIER HAS WITNESSED FAST GROWTH IN DEMAND OVER THE PAST YEAR. ”

Which watch was the first one you bid for at auction?
– It was a chronograph from Delbana (produced by Chronograph Suisse with a manually wound Landeron movement) from the 1940s. It is a simpler watch in terms of price with a super-thin gold case of 38 mm that is still part of my collection. it’s a good example of the fact that elegant watches doesn’t have to cost hundreds of thousands.

What makes vintage watches particularly interesting to you?
– It is probably a combination of several aspects. On one hand, the watch's affective value and the story it carries. The story that can be associated with the person it belonged to, in my case, a close relative. But it is also extremely exciting to see a watch in absolutely new condition even though it is 40-50 years old.

– I see a greater focus on modern watches from, for example, Patek, Rolex, F.P Journe and Richard Mille, even among more conservative collectors. Also, Vintage Cartier has witnessed fast growth in demand over the past year. It is great that people learn to know models such as Cintrée, Crash and Tank Normale. At the same time, sadly, many of these watches today cost imaginary sums.

” I LIKE TO HAVE DIFFERENT WATCHES FOR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND LET THEM BE THAT FINISHING TOUCH IN YOUR ATTIRE – THE THOUGHT OF WEARING A CINTRÉE IN YELLOW GOLD WITH A TUXEDO IS AS INTRIGUING AS A SPEEDMASTER WORN WITH A SUEDE JACKET. ”

How would you describe your collection?
– My collection has, already since the start 15 years ago, focused on icons. I have bought, sold and probably exchanged about a hundred watches over the years. In some periods, I focused more on certain decades and brands”. I have always been fascinated by design, whether it is typical for the time or timeless. Therefore I have often focused on design classics from several different brands such as Gerald Gentas Royal Oak and Nautilus, Omega Speedmasters, Rolex GMT Master "Pepsi" or Cartier Tank Cintrée. I like to have different watches for different occasions and let them be that finishing detail in your attire and style. The thought of wearing a Cintrée in yellow gold for a tuxedo is as intriguing as a Speedmaster worn with a suede jacket.
