BLÅ – A Life Estate
A dynamic selection of contemporary works of art
One of the characteristics of Bo and Lars-Åke’s (BLÅ) collection is the interest in contemporary artisans. Where Bo and Lars-Åke have personally gotten to know and work with several of them through the gallery Nivå 125 outside Båstad. The gallery worked to highlight both new and more established artists’ work within this genre and presented artisans in a wider gallery context with great commitment. Today, several of them have established themselves as important artist and designers.
Some examples of the collection's range of contemporary crafts are, among others, Gustaf Nordenskiöld, Åsa Bonnier, Per B Sundberg, Carl Richard Söderström, Signe Persson-Melin, Mårten Medbo and Kina Björklund. What these have in common is that they work mainly in ceramics.
› A unique porcelain object/ candlestick ”R.p.m - a rotation in stillness (blue no 1)”, circa 2009. Estimate 5 000 – 6 000 SEK.
– Some personal favourites are Gustaf Nordenskiöld’s ”R.p.m” sculpture, which has been given its shape through a masterful throwing technique. In his work, he leaves traces from the production to capture the movement from the throwing and the power of the material, so it feels like he is capturing a moment in the work’s creation, says Jonatan Jahn, Head Specialist Contemporary and Modern Design.

Carl Richard Söderström’s fascination with nature and how nature reclaims what humans have created has characterized his organic sculptures. The collection includes two of Söderström’s quintessential works, one wall-mounted and one free-standing with the title All Tre”. Using nearly black clay and his delicate craftsmanship, the works become captivating with their mystery and richness of detail.
› Signe Persson-Melin, a stoneware teapot, signed and dated 2006. Estimate 8 000 – 10 000 SEK.
– Another favourite is Signe Persson-Melin, that sadly passed away just recently. Her unique objects are an interplay between delicate craftsmanship and her personal aesthetic made for everyday use. With inspiration from Asian forms and materials, she created timeless objects that carry so much personality and presence. Today she is remembered as an icon within the Swedish studio ceramics scene.
