Jan Schoonhoven ”R 62-20”.

Jan Schoonhoven's work is characterised by an exploration of the ever-changing effect of light on his distinctive white sculptural reliefs. The relief's expression changes as the light and shadows fall, and it changes appearance, creating a living work of art. The current relief, "R-6-20" from 1962, is typical of Schoonhoven's production and fascinates with its changing expression.

Arthur Hayward, "The butterfly dress"

The British artist Arthur Hayward is a newly discovered artist name for me. The stunning painting "The butterfly dress" was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1933 and is painted with almost photographic sharpness. The composition with the serious girl in her richly decorated dress in front of the artist glimpsed in the mirror brings to mind Jan van Eyck's iconic Arnolfini portrait. An outstanding painting to rest your eyes on!

Alfred Lenica, ”Kompleks”

That Alfred Lenica was both a visual artist and active as a professional musician is evident in his distinctive and technically refined compositions, such as the auction's evocative "Complex" from 1962. Although at first glance, Lenica's paintings appear to be a play on abstract forms made up of different colours, patches, lines and dynamic groupings, the titles he gave the works encourage a more thoughtful interpretation. His main goal was to find a way to communicate experiences and emotions that are difficult to put into words through painting, and for him, this was also what made painting similar to music.

Einar Jolin, ”Två målarinnor”

The Swedish Art section contains several fantastic 1910s paintings by Einar Jolin. 'Two Painters', formerly known as 'The Sisters', was painted in 1918 and first exhibited at the iconic 'Younger Swedish Artists' exhibition at Liljevalchs in 1918 and was hailed as one of the highlights in the daily press. The 1910s was a formative period for the artist, and in the present work, the influence of his teacher Matisse can clearly be seen, but with Jolin's stylized and elegant style. The two female artists are depicted in a moment of intimacy in a warm palette of colours, probably surrounded by their own artwork.

Vert Lundquist, ”Vid Hasselbacken - Nattstyke från Djurgården”

I always like Evert Lundquist's paintings best when he works with a blue palette. The auction painting "At Hasselbacken - Night scene from Djurgården" was painted in 1938, and Lundquist shines here with his rich painting. Like the older masters, he allows a dramatic interplay between light and darkness to dominate the artwork, and the large format helps to suck us in and engulf us as viewers.
