Highlights from the art department at Important Winter Sale

Liljefors, Milles, and Warhol at the season's concluding live auction

Following successful auctions for modern and contemporary art and design, Bukowskis concludes the live season with the Important Winter Sale—the season's largest quality auction spanning all periods and genres, showcasing the best of the best in art, furniture, and craftsmanship.

During the second day of the auction, the focus shifted to the art department with significant works by Bruno Liljefors, Gustaf Fjaestad, and Carl Fredrik Hill, all abundantly represented. We also saw international classical art by Edmund Blair Leighton and works by the pop artist Andy Warhol.

Several works by Bruno Liljefors

Bruno Liljefors was represented with a total of 19 works, several of which sold well above the low estimate. The painting "Kitten in the Grass", depicting a kitten in a summer landscape, became today's first lot exceeding one million SEK. After intense bidding, it sold at a final price of SEK 2,100,000. Other highlights included 'Hare on Winter Landscape', 'Winter Landscape with hare' and 'Brooding Eider'.

Art by Swedish masters

Within the Swedish classical section we saw significant works by Carl Fredrik Hill, Eugène Jansson and Gustaf Fjaestad. "Spår I snön" by Gustaf Fjaestad exceeded expectations when it was sold for a final price of SEK 950,000. Furthermore, "Skogsbacke" by Carl Fredrik Hill and "Vintereftermiddag" by Eugène Jansson both sold for over a million SEK.

Within sculpture, we saw sought after works by Carl Milles, Theodor Lundberg, Arvid Knöppel, Gudmar Olovson and others. Highlights included Theodor Lundberg's "Vågen och stranden" and Carl Mille's "kämpande centaurer" which sold at a final price of SEK 455,000.

Lotte Laserstein in high demand

After the spring's successful auction for Lotte Laserstein, we saw high demand for Lotte Laserstein also this season, highlights included a collection of drawings and the paintings "Walter Lindenthal I solstolen" and "Junge unter einem Baum liegend", the latter of which sold for a final price of SEK 572,000.

From classic to pop art

Among the international classic masterpieces, we saw, among other things, the painting "Faded Laurels" by Edmund Blair Leighton, which ended up exceeding 1 million SEK. "Venus" by Andy Warhol also attracted great international interest and landed at a final price of SEK 1,375,000.

Scandinavia's largest quality auction within classic art and works of art continues to cement its leading position with increasing international interest. Consignments are underway for upcoming auctions.
