Ignacio Fleta

Ignacio Fleta (1897–1977) was one of the foremost luthiers in the guitar world, whose craftsmanship produced instruments with a uniquely warm tone. Coming from a family of distinguished artisans, he studied from a young age under some of the leading violin makers of his time, such as Étienne Maire and Philippe Le Duc—an experience that proved decisive for his guitar construction.

From 1927, when Ignacio Fleta established his own workshop in Barcelona, he increasingly focused on guitar making. This followed more than a decade working alongside his two brothers in a shared atelier, specialising in violin and cello construction. From 1955 onwards, he devoted himself exclusively to building guitars—just four years before the instrument featured in this auction was made.

Through innovations inspired by violin making, Fleta achieved a structural stability in his instruments which, combined with careful adjustments to proportions and traditional varnishing techniques, resulted in a unique tonal range. His guitars have been played by greats such as Andrés Segovia and John Williams

Josef Holeček

Josef Holeček (1939–2025) was a Czech-Swedish guitarist, professor and composer based in Gothenburg. He gave solo concerts across Europe as well as in the United States and Australia. His recordings include Britten/Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1976) and Romantic Guitar Music (1982/1995).

Jan Kling

Jan Kling (1940–2025) was a highly sought-after and widely respected studio and live musician who collaborated with artists such as ABBA, Ted Gärdestad and Magnus Uggla. As a woodwind player—performing on flute, saxophone and clarinet—he contributed significantly to ABBA’s distinctive sound and featured, among other recordings, on the track The Visitors. As a session musician, he also performed on Ulf Lundell’s albums Kär & galen and Den vassa eggen, as well as Tomas Ledin’s Hjärtats rytm, among others.

Kling was also active on the Swedish folk and jazz scene, collaborating with figures such as Cornelis Vreeswijk, Monica Zetterlund and Georg Riedel.
