Bukowskis has great pleasure in presenting selected works by artists who made a considerable impact on the art world during the dynamic 1950s, 60s and 1970s. Arman, César, Fontana, Vedova, Turcato, Miró and Rauschenberg – all were involved via various constellations and forms of expression in taking art, and therefore art history, to the next stage. Several of the works come from a significant Swedish collection and were purchased in Rome about 40 years ago.

Fernandez Arman was part of the Nouveau réalisme artistic movement and one of nine artists who in October 1960 signed the group’s manifesto; the ‘Constitutive Declaration of New Realism’. Other members of the group were Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri and Jean Tinguely. Four other artists joined in 1961, including César. César Baldaccini had made his breakthrough the previous year with his ‘compressions’ – compacted and welded metal objects.

Giulio Turcato and Emilio Vedova are perhaps less well-known in Scandinavia, but nevertheless significant artists in southern Europe. Turcato joined forces with six other Italian artists to establish the Italian abstract art movement Forma 1 in 1947. Vedova is also an Italian artist who started out as an expressionist but progressed to become an important part of the postwar period’s vibrant art scene and the Arte Informale movement, in which Lucio Fontana was also a key figure. The three have also exhibited together in Italy, among other places, in the 1970s and 80s. Fontana achieved world renown towards the end of the 1940s with his innovative works, which erased the boundaries between painting and sculpture and lent new dimensions to both techniques. This special auction features an exquisite example from his graphic production. And don’t miss the graphic pieces by Robert Rauschenberg and Joan Miró.
