Important Spring Sale presents a pair of George III ormolu-mounted and white marble brûle-parfums by Matthew Boulton, 1770s.

Bukowskis presents a pair of George III ormolu-mounted and white marble brûle-parfums by Matthew Boulton, 1770s, at the seasons largest live auction – Important Spring Sale.

One of the highlights in the Works of Art Department are these George III ormolu-mounted and white marble brûle-parfums by Matthew Boulton. Each of vase form, with pierced covers with bud finials, the cast arched handles terminating in ram's masks hung with and joined by laurel garlands, the base with stiff-leaf decoration above a waisted socle with laurel leaf base, on a stepped square plinth and ball feet. The inside with a gilt copper lining. Each base with scratched inventory mark "329". Height 19,5 cm.

The auction's perfume burners are identical to the base of a pair of candelabra, "Candle vases," delivered in 1775 to Lord Digby (now in the collections at Sherborne Castle). The model is identical, except for the foot termination, to the drawing numbered 860, plate 170, in Boulton and Fothergill's Pattern Book I.
