"Östanåspeglarna" by Pehr Ljung (1743-1819)
A characteristic feature of Pehr Ljung’s work is the distinctive laurel moulding, loosely carved and applied with nails, which appears on several of his signed works. At Östanå there was, among other things, a pair of signed girandole mirrors featuring this laurel moulding.
Pehr Ljung’s account book shows that he counted the Hebbe family family, as well as Carl Fredrik Fredenheim, among his clients. For example, an entry from June 1779 records: “Mrs Hebbe, 2 antique-style mirror frames richly ornamented, each at 8 riksdaler 10 skilling 8 rundstycken.” In July 1782 another entry reads: “Christian Hebbe, 2 trumeau mirrors with medallions and ornamented mouldings, each at 12 riksdaler 10 skilling 8 rundstycken.”
