Modern Art & Design: Tastemaker's Choice

Campbell-Rey

Charlotte Rey and Duncan Campbell

With Tastemaker’s Choice, we invite inspiring voices from the worlds of art and design to share their favourite pieces from our quality auctions, objects that capture their eye and spark their imagination.

In connection with this spring’s Modern Art & Design, we are pleased to partner with the London-based art and design studio Campbell-Rey — founded by Duncan Campbell and Charlotte Rey in 2014. Known for their playful use of colour, craftsmanship, and eclectic mix of styles and eras, the studio works across residential and commercial interiors, furniture, and product design.

Campbell-Rey combines historical references with a contemporary and often irreverent spirit, creating spaces and objects that feel both elegant and expressive. Over the years, the studio has collaborated with internationally recognised brands including Bentley, Bulgari, Baccarat, Kartell, and Veuve Clicquot, while also completing projects for private clients internationally.

The studio’s distinctive approach to design has earned them industry recognition, including being named in House & Garden’s Top 100 Interior Designers list since 2022.

Discover Campbell-Rey’s favourites from the live auction Modern Art & Design below.

Josef Frank, a "Liljevalchs" sofa, Firma Svenskt Tenn, 2013.

"One of our favourite sofa shapes - infinitely deep - and in this lush fuchsia velvet, it will be a real pièce de conversation at any cocktail party.”

Nils Fougstedt, model A 903, Firma Svenskt Tenn, Stockholm, 1929.

"With such a strong silhouette this vase could feel a bit severe, so would look amazing with a bouquet of blousy parrot tulips falling over its edge in different colours to soften the impression."

Wilhelm Kåge, an Argenta ceramic vase, Gustavsberg 1935.

“A beautiful colour and shape - we love the mottled effect of verdigris and the finish on this Art Deco ceramic vase reminds us of that. Perfect on a sideboard.”

Lars Holmström, a Swedish Grace brass wall mirror, Arvika, 1920-30s.

“It’s no wonder Swedish Grace is having such a revival when one comes across pieces like this brass mirror. A real showstopper.”

Henry Moore, "Reclining Figure Curved: Smooth"

“British sculptor Henry Moore’s sinuous curves and organic forms in bronze are contemplative in nature. This is a beautiful example of that.”

Otto Schulz, a pair of Swedish Grace console tables, Boet, Gothenburg, 1920s.

“These are very playful and fun - and would be such a charming surprise in a guest bedroom. We love creating surprising guest bedrooms so that guests can’t wait to come back to stay.”

Wiwen Nilsson, a sterling silver bowl on foot, Lund, Sweden 1942.

“It’s possible Wiwen Nilsson is Sweden’s most under appreciated designer - this bowl is a great example. The first monograph on his work was published last year by Rizzoli and hopefully this will pave the way for more international renown.”

Birger Kaipiainen, a decorative ceramic dish, Arabia, Finland.

"Equally beautiful hung on a wall as placed on a table.”
