Samu-Jussi Koski's Selected Favourites

Juhani Linnovaara "Spanish Self-Portrait"
Estimate: 10 000 - 12 000 EUR

"I love this work by Juhani Linnovaara, 'Spanish Self-Portrait’. Linnovaara is known for his surrealist pieces, and in this painting, too, the brilliant colours are accompanied by a dreamlike, slightly uncanny atmosphere."

Ukri Merikanto Forms
Estimate: 1 300 - 1 700 EUR

"Whenever I see Merikanto’s works, I’m reminded of how deeply our backgrounds shape us. Merikanto came from a well-known family of artists, and I feel that this is reflected in his work through a refined understanding, not only of form, but also of history and artistic tradition."

Reidar Särestöniemi "Lost Fish"
Estimate: 20 000 - 25 000 EUR

"Reidar Särestöniemi is one of my favourite artists, not only because of his expressive artistic style, but also because of his profound connection to nature and his sensitivity. I have visited his homestead and studio many times, and each visit makes me feel that I understand him as an artist a little more."

Björn Weckström "Tenochtitlan"
Estimate: 8 000 - 9 000 EUR

"Björn Weckström is my absolute favourite in Finnish jewelry art. I have had the opportunity to meet him several times, and I admire his remarkably assured, polished and international presence, as well as his impeccable manners. His infinite talent and exceptional taste is evident both in his larger sculptures and in his jewelry."

David Hockney "Henry at Table"
Estimate: 4 700 - 5 200 EUR

"What can one even say about David Hockney. A few years ago I saw his astonishing retrospective at the Pompidou in Paris, and I still admire his constant ability to reinvent himself as an artist. In this self-portrait, it almost looks like he’s sitting in front of a Marimekko tablecloth, haha."
