First edition in book form, mixed issue. With early issue points: “S. Veller” present on p. 342 line 5, “his friends” corrected on p. 400 line 21, signature “E” present on p. 25, p. 43 second paragraph of Chapter V reads “ruined wall,” p. 261 signature reads “X 2,” engraved title page shows second state “Weller” changed from “Veller,” footnote present on p. 9, “Pickwick” misspelled as “Picwkick” in headline of p. 375.

Half leather, rubbed, foxed throughout, pp. 75/76 with tear to lower outer corner, without loss but slightly affecting text, lengthy annotation in pencil to verso of letterpress title, bookplates of Thomas Barrowclough and of Lars Lovén.
