Agda Holst föddes 1886 i Kristianstad och kom till Paris 1907 där hon hamnade på
Académie Colarossi tillsammans med bl a den norska konstnären Christian Krohg. 1910 följde konststudier i München hos Julius Exter och 1911-12 återvände Agda Holst till Paris där hon blev elev till Kees van Dongen. På 1920-talet fortsatte hon hos André Lhote och återvände därefter till Sverige. Agda Holst konstnärsskap präglas av ett sakligt formspråk med ett måttfullt stiliserande i kubistisk stil med starkt påverkan från speciellt Lhote. Motiven är oftast stilleben, porträtt, figurstudier och naturalistiskt hållna landskap.
