A Gunnar Asplund armchair, circa 1930, possibly a prototype. Chromed plated tubular steel with brown leather upholstery.
Förkromade stålrör, stoppad sits och rygg klädda i brunt läder. Höjd 76,5 (45) cm, bredd 65,5 (48) cm.
Slitage, lädret med skador.
Provenance
Gåva till samtida arkitektkollega. Därefter i arv inom familjen.

Modellen möjligen en prototyp ritad av Gunnar Asplund till Stockholmsutställningen 1930. Den här modellen är snarlik den stol som Asplund ritade till Svenska Slöjdföreningens Styrelserum år 1931, är något vidare och generösare i proportionerna samt skiljer sig i detaljer vid armlänen.
Stolen är en modern tolkning av klismosstolen i stålrör, materialet som var på modet endast en kort tid, i stort sett mellan ca 1927-1930.
Även på Stadsbiblioteket (1920-28) använde sig Asplund av en klismostyp av stol, bl.a i stadsbibliotekariens rum.
Designer
Gunnar Asplund is considered one of the most significant and leading architects during the interwar period, both in Sweden and internationally. Asplund is seen as one of the foremost representatives of 1920s Nordic classicism, with the Skandia Theatre (1922) and the Stockholm Public Library (1928) as prominent examples. He was also one of the pioneers of functionalism, which he introduced in Sweden with the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930, where he was the chief architect.
